Frequently Asked Questions
We would always suggest to follow the WRAP recycling colour scheme. The below is not an exhaustive list but a selection of the most popular in offices.
Mixed Recycling - Lime Green
Paper - Blue
Plastics - Red
Cans - Grey
Food Waste - Dark Green
General Waste - Black or White
Batteries - Pink
Step 1. Speak to your waste collection company and ask if they would like your waste split into streams like paper, plastics, cans etc or whether they would take them as mixed recycling and sort themselves. Ideally you want to be separating your recycling in the office as it leads to a much higher sorting accuracy.
Step 2. Place recycling bins at convenient locations. Typically we would say within 10 seconds of a desk, where there is a high footfall and in kitchen and break areas.
Step 3. Make staff aware of the recycling bins, locations and what can be recycled in each bin. Clear signage on or above the bins is also important for maximising accuracy.
Step 4. Appoint someone who is passionate about the environment and recycling as the coordinator. This step is optional and probably only needed in larger organisations, but by doing so can further increase participation and cohesiveness.
